Tunnel Marathon Course Recon: 53 Miles Over Two Sundays
Running milestone: today I ran my 10th marathon since January this year (first marathon, January)! 🙂
In preparation for the Tunnel Marathon this August (https://www.tunnelmarathon.com/), I started running its course last Sunday, first from its starting point to the midpoint and back, then running from its finish point to the midpoint and back today:
Part 1 - Starting at Palouse to Cascades State Park due west and back: distance 26.69 miles, descend first 967ft/295m then ascend (“V”). Moving time was 4:45:32, pace 10:42/mi. There was a 2-mile run through a pitch-black tunnel at the beginning – fun!
Part 2 - Starting at Dahlgren Family Park @ North Bend due south/east and back: distance 26.39 miles, ascend first 1,163ft/354m then descend (inverted “V”). Moving time was 4:00:12, pace 9:06/mi.
On both days the sun was HOT and I started wearing water vest filled w/ 1.2~1.5L electrolyte water.
