Professor Jonathan Berant (Tel Aviv University) gave an invited talk at SUKI Workshop @ NAACL2022 on complex question answering. He described among the three steps — question decomposition, retrieval and reasoning — the second step is particularly important and hard.

More than one of us was surprised that the step of question decomposition/implicit relation detection is not the most difficult one.
